1.  I have never tried acupuncture therapy before, is acupuncture safe and effective?
Yes, on 04/01/1996 FDA reclassified acupuncture needles from Class III to Class II for "general acupuncture use" by licensed, registered or certified practitioners.  As part of this reclassification, FDA has determined that the current "investigational use" labeling requirements no longer apply to acupuncture needles intended for general use by qualified practitioners.(click here for more details)

National Institutes of Health Consensus Development, Statement, ACUPUNCTURE,  on November 3-5, 1997 concludes: "Acupuncture as a therapeutic intervention is widely practiced in the United States. Acupuncture promising results have emerged, for example, showing efficacy of acupuncture in adult post-operative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting and in post-operative dental pain. There are other situations such as addiction, stroke rehabilitation, headache, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, myofacial pain, osteoarthritis, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and asthma where acupuncture may be useful as an adjunct treatment or an acceptable alternative or be included in a comprehensive management program. Further research is likely to uncover additional areas where acupuncture interventions will be useful.(click here for more details)"

2.  Can you tell me some general information about chiropractic?
Frequently asked questions about chiropractic are answered in the recently released most authoritative government publication: "Chiropractic in the Unite States: Training, Practice, and Research" (click here for more details)

3.  How can I tell if acupuncture could help my conditions?

Although acupuncture is not for everybody or everything, we usually provide a free consultation before you make any decision for treatment, if we do not believe acupuncture is indicated for your conditions or you decided not to undergo proposed treatments.  If we believe there is a possibility acupuncture might help your condition, we will recommend a trial program of three sessions to start with.  If no noticeable improvement is experienced from you by your definitions or expectation after three sessions, we will usually recommend to discontinue acupuncture and/or chiropractic therapy in most cases, and refer you to appropriate specialists of your choice for further care.

4.  Does chiropractic really work?
Clinical Practice Guideline, Acute Low Back Problems in Adults,(click here for more details) published by
Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, Public Health Service, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommended spinal manipulation as one of the proven treatments for some people in the first month of low back symptoms.

5. Do  you accept my insurance?
We accept most insurance/plans as long as it offers chiropractic or acupuncture coverage, you may review our complete Financial Policy on this Website.

6. Is acupuncture covered by my insurance/plan?
More and more insurance carriers or employee benefits plans are offering limited acupuncture and/or chiropractic coverage in the recent years, however for your specific policy or employee benefits plan, the best way to find out is to check with your insurance policy/employee benefits booklets/group insurance certificates/Summary Plan Description (SPD).  If you do not have any of these, you need to request for a copy of these documents from your employer/insurance company or you may call the 800 number on your insurance card or we will call to find out for you.
We are surprised to learn that just in the past year most major insurance companies have reimbursed our acupuncture claims since acupuncture procedure was officially recognized as 97780, CPT Code for insurance billing, although each individual insurance policy or employee benefits plan may have different coverage provisions.
Unfortunately, Medicare presently does not cover acupuncture regardless performed by an M.D. or a chiropractor.

One of the very important but most commonly ignored resource of possible acupuncture/chiropractic reimbursement for you, as we noted from some of our patients, is your Flexible Benefits and Medical Savings Accounts(MSA) provided by some employers, from which you may receive reimbursement. Acupuncture and chiropractic are covered under IRS code. You may contact your company human resource department or personnel for further specific information, or visit U.S. Department Of Labor - Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration Home Page for more information.

Due to recent FDA reclassification of acupuncture from "investigational status" to "general acupuncture use", your insurance policy/employee benefit plan may not legally and automatically exclude acupuncture on experimental/investigational grounds, unless acupuncture was specifically named under exclusion/not covered services in your policy/plan booklets (SPD).  Always ask for specific page numbers and paragraph where it states acupuncture was not covered in your employee benefits booklets/insurance policy when you call to verify acupuncture coverage. If acupuncture is not specifically named as noncovered service in your policy/plan, you may have ground for future appeal of denial of acupuncture in accordance with federal law or state insurance law. Always consult with employee benefits booklets/SPD to verify accuracy of coverage information obtained from telephone.  If you do not have a current employee health benefits booklets/SPD, ask your personnel department or human resource department or employer for a latest copy.  Federal law requires a plan administrator to provide you with a copy upon your written request within 30 days, or facing a penalty of up to $100 per day.
